2010 Global Day of Giving - Project Submission‏

A vos idées pour le 27 Mai!

"For the past 3 years, a team of Paris XL Re & XL Ins. have joined their forces to help Ayud'art, a French organization which supports Cima, a center for streetchildren in Lima, Perù.

Cima provides shelter, education, psychological and social support to 100 children that were once dealing with drugs, violence and crime in Lima's streets. By selling fair-trade handicrafts, seeking sponsors, promoting Cima actions to highschool students and professional organizations, or facilitating volunteering projects, Ayud'art helps Cima all through the year from France.

In previous years, the skills and dedication of XL employees have resulted in a giant leap for the organization.

Though the organization’s ambition and heart is big, it is still very small and the Global Day of Giving is a fantastic gift for the organization to be more efficient and look more professional when seeking both public and private support for example.

The motivated GDoG volunteers have prepared and translated in 4 languages promotional material for Ayud'art, improved its website's userfriendliness, put its accounting in order, gathered contacts of potential partners and contributors, helped it to be up-to-date with fiscal and regulatory environments, and more.

In 2008, one of GDoG volunteers joined Ayud'art and one partner found by an XL volunteer during GDoG resulted in a $600 handicrafts sale (4 months of salary of a Cima teacher).

In 2009, the creation of handicraft catalogues by GDoG volunteers have boosted winter sales despite the crisis.

The impact is similarly enthusiastic in Perù where the first GDOG was jointly celebrated by Cima's residents with an XL-sponsored sports competition and cakes. This was a huge success and as Cima's manager Jean-Louis Lebel had confessed "for these kids, knowing that individuals across the ocean are offering their energy and talents to their future is an incredible boost. Suddenly, they feel cared about ...and simply part of society, which is ultimately what we aim to offer them".

If there is room for another GDoG project in Paris in 2010, I will be glad to lead this project again with similar types of administrative and marketing activities.

As in the past, the AYUD’ART project could take place at the office and welcome off-site employees’ support as well.

Up to a dozen participants would be welcome but the project can operate with only 2.
